Eureka

The town not an idea

I'm staying with Susan, the sister of Frank who I couchsurfed with in
Camden, New Jersey (the murder capital of the states).

Eureka is a beautiful little town. Northern California is beautiful.
The sunlight is so clear. After drissly Portland especially.

I had company on the road today. Lisa a German couchsurfer who needed
a lift to San Francisco.

Tomorrow we drive down through the redwoods, then watch England beat
the USA. Then drive to San Francisco.

Too much viewing for one day

That route 101 is spec-tac-u-lar

Overcome by the beauty

I'm going to Alaska

Emma is from Alaska and is very well known there and can get me on
some dates there next July.

Bearers of bad news

Straight to the dentist who gave me a temporary filling. ($175)

Turns out I need a root canal and a crown.

As well as another crown and another filling.

I'll get them done in Amsterdam

The Goonies' House

Seems to be partly owned by Israel now

Oregon in June

Seaside

Emma, who played with me on Sunday, invited me out to stay in Seaside,
a town East of Portland on the Oregon coast.

She took me round the town. Her and her friend both decided to move
out of Portland on the spur of the moment.

Emma has toured the US a lot.

Here's a funny coincidence. She played a show in New York and a guy
from Amsterdam sent his parents to see her when they were visiting.
They said he could get her shows in Amsterdam and she coud stay with
them, but she lost the contact details. Turns out I know the guy, Leon
from Subacultcha.

Update

Oh, the admin. I've really had enough of it.

I've spent all day again in a coffee shop looking for places to stay in San Francisco, Toronto and Iceland and no luck. Big cities are the hardest. It's such a drag.

I also did more booking for Europe but again no bites. It's been a while since I had any positive responses, and summers coming up - the worst time to book.

I still have to:
- Promote my NXNE showcase: find some way of getting the 'industry' people to come to my show there
- Post to couchsurfing groups in Scandinavia and Eastern Europe to see if anyone would like to host a house concert
- Add more venue names to Italian and German databases
- Keep mailing European venues
- Promote Thursday's show in Portland. Call the radio and message on meetup.com and message people visiting Portland on couchsurfing.com to get people out
- Start building up a database of New Zealand venues

It really takes the edge of things when you have so much admin to do.

Sympathy?

Hello goodbye

The new ipad is wonderful. I just bought one but I have to take it back.

I wanted it to replace my laptop but it doesn't work well at all with
google docs which I need for booking. Safari doesn't support
contentEditable and you can't download Firefox. So it is just a big
iPhone which is very disappointing.

Portland

This is Portland
http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/

It's a nice cliche though. The most progressive city in America. Everyone here does yoga, cycles everywhere, buys organic, has chickens, make things, supports local bands, etc.. There's even a vegan strip club. I'm not sure what that entails.

Boiler room bar

With railing made from the dismantled boiler. Top.

The Kennedy School

A hotel and bar with hot tub and games room and theater in a converted
school, just around the corner from my couchsurf.

I just soaked in the hot tub.
